Caerlaverock Castle, Dumfries, DG1 4RE.

This is a picturesque triangular moated castle dating from 13th to 17th centuries.

Approx. 80 miles 1.5 hours, we will then return via  

The Devil's Porridge, Annan Rd, Eastriggs, Dumfries & Galloway (nr. Gretna) DG12 6TF

Museum for the Gretna armaments factory and social history

Mini-bus will leave Kirkby Stephen Pennine Hotel bus shelter at 10.00 (pick up can be arranged at Brough bus stop) Places very limited or meet Caelaverock Castle 11.30-12.00.

Return home Kirkby Stephen 18.00 approx.

Tuesday 27 June

Jericho and the Ribblehead Viaduct Story Tour, Ribblehead Viaduct, North Yorkshire

The real history and experience of Batty Moss navvy settlement and building of the Settle to Carlisle Ribblehead viaduct with museum and café. 

A short walk and standing, please prepare for the weather of the day.

By train Appleby 12.36, Kirkby Stephen 12.50 arrive Ribblehead 13.15

Return Ribblehead 16.01, Kirkby Stephen 16.29, Appleby 16.41

Wednesday 19th July 14.00

Kirkby Stephen Parish Church history, Loki and other carved stones with Sir Martin Holdgate

Kirkby Stephen has a long history as a place of worship as evidenced by early stones dating from between 700 and 1050AD.

Meet at the church 14.00 with tea and cake afterwards at the Quaker Meeting House in aid of KS Mountain Rescue £3. Donations to church box please.

Thursday 14th September

Shandy Hall, Coxwold, York YO61 4AD

Former home of 18th century novelist and former vicar of Coxwold, Laurence Sterne. House, garden and exhibition.

We will visit the village first with church, café or pub for lunch and tour the house at 14.00.

Mini bus will leave Kirkby Stephen Pennine Hotel bus shelter at 10.00 (pick up can be arranged at Brough bus stop) Places very limited or meet Coxwold 11.30-12.00.

Return Kirkby Staphen approx. 18.00
